The experts at One Ten Home Furnishings offer the following tips to consider before purchasing your furniture.

Step One : Decide what the room will be used for and how often
This step may sound obvious, but some thought needs to be considered.  A room to be used for only special occasions has totally different furnishings then that of a family or television room which will be used daily. People who entertain often need extra seating for their guests while families with children need open areas for play and storage for toys.  Television / home theater rooms need space for an entertainment unit, various electronic components and media storage. Recliners and rockers need space to move. Sofabeds need room to open up and the tables around it must be easy to rearrange.

Step Two: Decide on a basic style:
Casual vs. formal, contemporary vs. traditional, country vs. modern? These questions may seem like a major decision, but they are quite easy. Look in decorating magazines or books to understand what you like and what fits into the rest of your home. Step Three: Draw a floor plan of your room:
A good scale is one foot equals one inch. Measure the room corner to corner and draw in any architectural elements such as doors, stairs, fireplaces and windows. Don’t forget to include the height of the window from the floor as the back of the sofas are too high and will not clear the window. Make note of the electric outlets and telephone jacks so they are accessible and heater/air conditioning ducts so they will not be blocked. Make sure you have ample room for traffic as well.
